Trace the label surface condition back to the previous process stage

When adhesion changes during production, the labeller may be receiving a different pack rather than developing a new applicator fault. Compare the bottle at the label point with the approved trial condition.

After rinsing or washing

Inspect the exact front and back panels for droplets, dampness or water released during conveyor movement. Define the dryness check at the labeller, not only at the dryer exit.

After filling

Check splash, product film, temperature and condensation. A stable filled bottle can still be unsuitable for pressure-sensitive labelling if the usable panel is contaminated.

After capping or pump fitting

Check whether the closure changes bottle handling or causes product to reach the panel during transfer. Confirm guide and hold-down clearance with the fitted component.

  1. Pause adjustment and retain a good and bad pack from the same run.
  2. Compare surface condition, temperature, label roll and elapsed time before application.
  3. Clean only through the approved process and repeat the same controlled test.
  4. Ask the label supplier to confirm the adhesive/substrate application conditions when material suitability is uncertain.

Material confirmation: ask the label supplier to confirm the face stock, adhesive and liner against the actual moulded bottle and application/storage conditions. A generic material name such as PET, HDPE or PP is not a substitute for testing the finished pack.
